BUKU Music + Art Project - Spirit of New Orleans in a Festival

BY Matthew Demarko

If you have ever been to New Orleans, you know why its reputation precedes itself. An enigmatic jewel of the south, New Orleans pulses with energy on every street corner, all day and all night. Whether it’s the music, the art, or the spirits (both liquid and ghostly) this city is like no other. Now, can you imagine what their music festival is like?!

For its 10th year, Buku is coming back BIG. All you have to do is take a glance at their electrifying lineup and realize they aren’t leaving anything to chance.

The festival has always been an incredible cross section of hip hop and EDM; where else are you gonna see Tame Impala headline one night and Tyler take the same stage the next? These are arguably the two most captivating live artists in their respective genres, and Buku has them both.

But the festival doesn’t stop there: Buku has arranged a dizzying amount of options for late-night after parties.

In a compliment to New Orleans itself, it won’t matter where you go because the music is going to be good. Saturday night alone has four different options to satiate the hungriest of music fiends. And after absorbing all the energy of the festival and pouring out into the electric city itself, don’t be surprised if you’re watching the sunrise over the water Sunday morning.

But where does all this magic go down? The setting is just as wild. Now, it wouldn’t be New Orleans without a water-feature. Bordering the Mississippi river, you also get the old school charm of the Market Street Power Plant in the background. And in the same warehouse as one of the stages? Mardi Gras World, where they store the largest carnival-esque floats from their internationally known celebrations.

It’s a melting pot in the flavor that only New Orleans could deliver, and we can’t wait to head there and document the madness.

As they say, “If you’re in the BUKREWE you already know. If not, come join us.”
